Many families have asked us about the proposed new au pair regulations that were released by the Department of State.
The Notice of Proposed Rulemaking was published in October 2023, and the comment period ended in late January 2024. There were many comments, and no rule has been finalized as of May 2026.
Since the proposed rule included a 180-day grandfathering-in period for new au pairs, we are not expecting the final rule (if one is published) to apply to au pairs who enter the United States before summer 2027.
